I Don’t Need to be in the Woods (2018), Ox-Bow School of Art & Artist Residency. The casts were created by uncovering rocks in the landscape and casting directly inside of them, alongside prints of unnatural/industrial materials found in the landscape.

Small Monuments (2020), Plaster casted in on-site found boxes and thrown away materials, rubbed with used shop rags and adorned with eucalyptus for healing, a brass cast ring, a small bronze bell Vermont Studio Center for hosting the progress of this work (AIR March 2020), Documentation of objects & hands by Nafis White

The bronze bell in this piece was given to me by a dear colleague at my restaurant job that had just been drastically affected by Nashville’s March 2020 Tornado, the disaster that occurred while I was on Residency at VSC one week prior to the Covid-19 shut down, that wrecked the homes of my coworkers, and an un-countable amount of beloved spaces at home while I was away. These small monuments were moved and rearranged in some attempt to harness care and power within these object assemblages, a summoning of movement echoing the movement and re-assemblage my community was doing at home. Each plaster cast was massaged with oil-ridden cloths in a building that was once burnt down by an oil-cloth fire. I was considering here the negative space within a monument, the power of touch, rubbing, balance, and composition in obsessive, repetitive, introspective performances.
